Like the ice tanks around reactors, the hydrogen contained in the water? molocule in contained water is a great shield - that is why plastic makes a good shielding material for gamma, because of the hydrogen content. If your brother is a nuclear engineer then you know about the inverse square law, and that any gamma that makes it through 25 meters of water is huge amount of gamma. At that amount, your not going to worry about? your meter. Your smoke detectors can create a little neutron, but how many preppers are trying to do that? The same thing happened at Chernobyl: they used robots for the most radioactive areas of the roof and core, but even their circuits fried and they could not function. The only answer was to send humans into these completely dangerous areas to? clean it up. They are known as the Biorobots of Chernobyl and very few of them are still alive today. Also keep in mind at Chernobyl the carbon moderator caught fire and radiated a much larger area due to the diffusion of the burnt carbon. Where as fukushima utilizes a safe water moderator. Where as you know can not catch fire. The fuel may have melted the core but this core melted as designed to do so. Legally you can only be exposed to so many rad in a life time while working in the US due the statistical possibility of genetic damage such as cancer. Then again you can get skin cancer from solar radiation as well. Perhaps we should start chanting "No more sun!". The embedded particle you mention is somewhat true in larger doses depending on radioactivity, but the person could still live a normal life.

Actually radiation is a decaying phenomenon. You're body will soak up some but very little unless you swallow something irradiated like iodine or breath in the an irradiated gas like xeon.? Which is why iodine pills are "recommended" so that your body will reject any additional iodine in addition to the pills you take. Another beautiful day in Japan, I am 135 miles / 220 Km south of Fukushima, on the outskirts of the Tokyo area. It is Tuesday, June 7th, as you can see in the video, I just walk outside of my house and .... radiation. The air is not dangerous but the ground is. The radiation is much higher in low lying areas and the government here is desperately trying to keep it quiet.
