We agree that the sari is a traditional Indian garment and that it is extremely beautiful but Indian girls definitely have the right to choose what they want to wear. I also think you haven't been to India recently but many of the Indian homegrown girls now wear shorts and tank tops! The problem is not skin or hair colour, but how U wear the Saree - unless U have a proper understanding of how the saree is supposed to work, you loose the structure of the whole thing. A saree is one of most sensual and sexy things U can wear if U know how to carry it properly. I think Elizabeth Hurley is the only one wearing it reasonably correctly.? The rest was just a sloppy mess, Madonnas blouse was just disgustingly shapeless and some of the last few pics were not even sarees.

I think its because the rest of them looks very generic but some "white" women could easily. Not all Indians are the same shade or look the same anyway....I think if you took a fair? skinned long haired maybe even dark haired woman and put her in a saree..in most cases she would look smashing but it works better on a natural and sensual woman just because of the construction of the sari...its a very sensual form of dress.

a tip to anyone trying this style, do the pleats for the pallu first, pin them in place on your shoulder how you would want them in the end, BEFORE doing the front pleats, then after the pallu is secure you can do the front pleats nicely. this way the material gets pulled? tightly around you which is how this type of sari is supposed to be :)

Hey, I heard about this product called Sari Saheli pleatmaker which is a tool to tie your pleats and palla. So, if you are a amateur like me and dont know how? to wear a saree, just order this Pleatmaker machine from sarisaheli website and draping a saree becomes so much easier. ur wearing the saree from the wrong side...ur suppose to wear it from left to right, the end of the saree comes over ur left shoulder, not right. All (well most) sarees are made to wear it from left to right otherwise the print of the saree wont? 'fit' to style.

I was taught how to wear a sari when I was very little...like about 6 to 7 years old. Then I moved to Canada and grew up here...never attempted to wear a sari again until I was 16-17 years old. Surprisingly, I still remember how to do the pleating thing!! I think its like riding? a bike - once you learn to do it, you remember it for the rest of your life :D . The sari saheli thing honestly just complicates things more. Learn to do without it and you wont feel handicapped forever :)

I could be? wrong, but your sari might be heavily starched, which makes it very stiff. Silk saris have more body than cotton, but they shouldn't be so stiff that they cannot be folded. I bought a used, unstarched sari and it is soft, not hard at all. If you look up online you should find directions on how to wash it out. :) Hope that helps.

The sari in this vid is SOOO beautiful! I'm not? Indian but I like saris. I ordered a lovely silk one but the material's so stiff I can barely put it on. I hate to return the sari b/c it's so nice. I'm also very petite and have child-sized hands, sometimes the pleats are hard for me. Mine just arrived today (thanks for the lightning-fast shipping)......can't wait to try it!
