By: HellBilly02. on 13 May 12, 07:09:43
You do realize just how hard it is to start a country, have enough resources to go to war all the way across the Atlantic? ocean, have a war at home (War of 1812), have a war with the Native Americans and keep peace with thirteen sovereign states in less than 40 years? You have got to be kidding.
By: jack notlih. on 12 May 12, 03:48:33
i cant imagine any other actor playing Sharpe than? sean bean
By: TheAli985. on 11 May 12, 14:31:57
Did i ever say you were not appalled by the terror. All i said was because of the war of independance, the people who supported america all got killed. Don't see how that makes me ignorant well all you did was repeat what i had said essentially?
By: MinisterAilingTongue. on 11 May 12, 08:16:11
Mais non! The Americans were generally appalled by the Terror but applauded the French Revolution and the increase of enlightenment that it would bring. The American Revolution severed the largest, most prosperous colonies from the most significant imperial power? whilst bankrupting the next imperial power. The ignorant don't appreciate it, but to perhaps every other living American, it's quite amusing or at least fascinating that an imperial rivalry gave birth our republic.

Is any other country truly different? What? country doesn't have it's own interests at heart? People and countries alike, as a general rule, pursue their own ends. Can you honestly say if your country had been in the same predicament you would judge their actions harshly?
By: TheAli985. on 02 May 12, 22:07:06
Oh yea that was the main reason they helped. Does seem to have been a regular occurance though for america for quite a long time to just stay neutral in wars that they cannot? benefit from. Even now in disputes between countries they still support whichever can give them the most at the particular time
By: pwpwp1. on 02 May 12, 17:00:56
Ah yes, because of course the noble French had no ulterior motives whatsoever in aiding the Americans? Let's be honest here, the French monarchy only aided the US to embarrass the English, and when that said monarchy was overthrown and the new French "government" asked aid from the Americans, we made the rational decision at the time, we could not afford a conflict with? Britain or France, we remained neutral.

Why do the french? guys have bags over their hats?

It's a shame to see the guy who played Hagman has only acted in one thing since the end of his involvement in? Sharpe. Such a shame.
By: Stevenio. on 27 Apr 12, 04:49:52
Braveheart was? good though despite the historical inaccuracies.
By: downloadgoblin. on 24 Apr 12, 07:03:18
Ah, the memories. When I first watched this, I asked my dad why those? french guys had popcorn bags on their hats.
By: TheShirEl. on 23 Apr 12, 05:27:19
My late father often said that Europe would have been vastly better off if Napoleon had won, and gave his revision of France's medieval legal system as one example. Historical footnote: French troops sacked and? burned the church where Torquemada was buried, disenturing the unmarked graves under the presbytery where he and other monks of his order were buried.
By: ColonelChamberlain. on 23 Apr 12, 05:23:57
i also like how the main battle that? served as the climax of the film never actually happened.
By: TheShirEl. on 23 Apr 12, 05:23:07
Thank you, that's very interesting. I knew the Inquisition was very active in Latin America, and according to one report was not officially abolished in Argentina? until the 1920's or 30's. Sorry I can't be more specific. All the Best to you.
By: slideharp1. on 22 Apr 12, 19:08:31
Brian Cox is? brilliant as Hogan with his blatant Blarney-jive. He's so full of shit it's hilarious.
By: slideharp1. on 22 Apr 12, 19:05:53
Interesting. When I was living? in New Orleans, '92-'97, a cache of torture instruments and other items were discovered in a cellar of the Presbytere - the original Spanish gov't (N.O. was built by the Spanish). It was put forward that there had been plans to bring the Inquisition to N.O. that were never finally brought into being.
By: TheShirEl. on 22 Apr 12, 06:17:52
The extent of the Inquisition's records? is known because in Portugal they were made public when that country became a secular state; their huge genealogical books are still on display in Lisbon.
