A fellow modeller asked how they could unwrap the tyre tread of their wheel so that they could easily texture this. I demonstrate a few techniques to unwrap into segments: tyre tread and sidewalls. I have sped up the video when the mesh was being relaxed as this took almost 10mins to complete on my little laptop :-)

Holy F#%$!!! I have been messing with Bodypaint's horrible UV mapping tools for more than a year, with much frustration and heartache. But I try with Silo and I get a UV map of a man done perfectly on the first try! And in? 15 minutes!! Silo is Well worth the money. BTW. Mac users, get an Intuos tablet for Silo. a 3 button mouse or a Bamboo just isn't good enough. Intuos 3/4 + Silo2 = modeling heaven.

Well, i think he deleted it (but ONLY because it was a tutorial) A think it'd be better if you just hide it with layers, or you can click on the "isolate select" button, which would do the same trick without deleting it or? "losing time" "layering" it :)

To answer your question, you need to go into the textures place2texture-no which is hooked up to your material, all in the hypershade. The repeat should say 1 and 1 on U and V.. increase the value to say 10 and 10? and you will see it repeat, and give you more checkers

I'm actually thinking of doing a long video intro to all aspects of UV'ing, cause I think it will? help people. Just setup a site so I can put 30min vids up, or whatever length I want element-studios.co.uk, not much on there but it's for requests that take some explanation. All you do though is go into the checker node in atribute editor and then to the 2dplacement? node, alter the repeats to whatever you want

Hey, I have not used IMVU's Previewer in quite a while, but the last time I did they still had not updated their exporting tools to? work with current versions of 3ds Max. The Exporter works for 3ds Max 7 and sorta works for 3ds Max 8, later versions are problematic. My best recommendation is to check the IMVU forums.

Best tutorial out there, awsome thnx! One thing though. When I try to Unwrap my Object, the Unwrap modifier automaticly cuts the object into Seams? wich sucks because then when you Flatten the Faces it flattens it in different parts, but you only want it in one part.

hello i am using the tool? as you said here and i love it. however sometimes the tool seems to fail, the tool removes any selected UV's it seems to have something to do with mesh complexity, but is there a specific thing you are aware off that makes it do this, i have had it fail several times with no real mesh related problems thanks in advance
